Ultrasound is a safe, painless scan that uses sound waves to look at the baby in pregnancy, or at the uterus and ovaries in gynaecological care. Because it is available in-clinic, dating scans, growth scans and routine assessments can usually be done during your appointment.

Having your consultant both perform and interpret the scan means findings are explained to you straight away, in plain language, with a clear plan for any next steps.

What to expect

  • Pregnancy scans including growth, fetal well-being, position and routine antenatal assessments.
  • Pelvic ultrasound for ovarian cysts, fibroids, PCOS, pelvic pain and menstrual disorders.
  • Immediate, plain-language explanation of what the scan shows.
  • A clear plan if any finding needs follow-up or further investigation.

When to see Dr. Nosheen

  • You are pregnant and due a growth or well-being scan.
  • You have pelvic pain, irregular bleeding or a suspected cyst or fibroid.
  • You are being assessed for fertility or PCOS.
  • Your doctor has recommended a pelvic ultrasound.

Common questions

Yes. Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation, and is considered safe for both mother and baby when performed for medical reasons.
