Difficulty conceiving is common and affects many couples. In most cases there is an identifiable cause, and many fertility problems can be successfully treated. Infertility is usually assessed after a year of trying, or after six months if you are over 35 or have irregular periods, PCOS or a known gynaecological problem.

Fertility difficulties can arise from ovulation disorders, PCOS, blocked fallopian tubes, endometriosis, male-factor infertility or sometimes no obvious cause at all. A structured fertility assessment helps identify the most likely reason and guides the most appropriate treatment.

Dr. Nosheen Batool assesses both partners, identifies the likely cause — ovulation problems, blocked tubes, a male factor, or unexplained — and builds a step-by-step plan, from lifestyle and ovulation support to onward referral for IUI or IVF when that is the right next step.

What to expect

  • A full history and assessment of both partners.
  • Blood tests to confirm ovulation and check hormone levels.
  • A pelvic ultrasound, and a tubal patency test (HSG) where it is needed.
  • A clear explanation of the likely cause and your treatment options.
  • Ovulation-supporting treatment, with referral for IUI or IVF when appropriate.
